Page 3

Well I post something old to avoid my blog turning into a cemetery. This is page 3 from a commissioned comic I did last spring. It was also a part of my graduation work.

the day when the snow melted away

No new posts here? I have noticed the same. Other projects have been keeping me busy. There's new pictures laying on my table but sadly I haven't got time to finish them. Maybe next week, or the next, or...

Meanwhile, you can take a look at my portfolio, which I put together recently. There's also some stuff other than illustrations.

I have been toying with the idea that I would try to write a story, a kind of a children's tale, but more darker one, and illustrate it with simple black and white pictures. And post it here one page at a time, whenever I have the next picture ready. Actually the story is ready - it needs a little bit editing though, I wrote it couple of years ago and occasionally it jumps in my mind, crying for attention. It has been in my mind so long that maybe it deserves to be done.

But time isn't my friend now days, it seems to be speeding towards the deadlines and I'm trying to keep up the pace. I'm telling myself that somewhere in the near future I'm not running all the time and there's time again for drawing just for my own fun. And time to listen the silence, now there seems to be noice everywhere. I'm not sure where it all came from, but I don't like the fact that I'm loosing myself in it.

I'll take you somewhere safe

When it was still sunny and warm, I said I wanted to draw some lighthouses. Well, this has been laying around since. I finally finished it, and it turned out to be an odd one. It's OK I guess, but not what I had in mind when I started it. A mixture of memories and things seen in a dream. But mostly it's done because of the hat the girl is wearing and of course the lighthouse.

Snowflakes

It's winter again. Somehow I'm happy of all the snow and cold weather and the past couple of days when sun has been shining every morning when I have woken up. But the winter is long and you need a lot more than just warm socks and hot chocolate to stay warm... Today the cold stayed away by going through some pictures from last summer. Good warm memories.

Fixed

I got my life back.

My PC is droning again beside my feet. So it's back to work. I'll post new images as soon as I'm able. And maybe I'll post some photos from Lapland, where I went hiking with some friends last weekend. Great sceneries, great weather and great time. I wish it was next autumn already so we could go again.

Crippled

My PC is broken and I have no idea when I'll have everything back in order. So no new posts for awhile.

Now I'm just hoping that I haven't lost any data. And dreaming of a better world where there are only Macs and that black, twisted cancer called Windows, was just a bad dream.

Sketches

Sometimes I feel I'm totally incapable to concentrate on only one thing at a time. So here is just six of the images I'm trying to do simultaneously. And these are just for my own fun, I don't want to talk about all the ongoing work I have unfinished...

I wish that I for once could finish one picture before I start a new one. But no, I always come up with a better idea I just have to draw. Hmph.

Do I just get bored quickly or is there a name for this kind of sickness?

Witch

I had some trouble making the colors work and I'm still not totally satisfied. And I had to use gradient on the background... what a shame, I think I'm loosing my touch.

Green woman

I did draw one picture with a lighthouse in it on Monday, but then I didn't have time to ink it, so it got buried in the growing pile of unfinished things. I try to rescue it from there as soon as possible.

This picture has no story. I just wanted to draw a face.

Finncon

I attended Finncon 2006 (it is a science fiction/ fantasy literature conference if you didn't know, one of the biggest held in Europe) in Helsinki last weekend. The weekend's weather was quite hot so being in a conference crowded with people - too much people! - wasn't so pleasant. Humankind still hasn't learn how to queue or not to block all the exits and so on. Or how to shut down their goddamn mobiles... But that's how it is with people. Hmph. I say, people...

But despite these unavoidable little things that comes along every time you leave your apartment I had a good time. Couple of good lectures - especially the ones by Paul Gravett - and many interesting panel discussions. The Sunday afternoon panel about heroines and heroes in the works of five Finnish female novelists turned out to be also very entertaining. At least there was much more laughter than in any other panel I witnessed, though the panel about Alternative History Meets Technology also tried it's best to entertain the audience with humour.
I tried to steer myself away from the many booths selling books and comics and I was doing a fine job but then on a second day of Finncon I found myself handing money to that guy behind the pile of books. Damn, they got me! But now I have Super-Cannes by J.G. Ballard and Light by M. John Harrison. Both books have been long in my I_should_read_these_next list, so it was not so bad moment of weakness.

And I also met some good friends in Helsinki. So it was a good weekend, unfortunately that equals boring Monday. Should draw something. Do some work. I'd like to draw some lighthouses. Yes, lighthouses, I have them in my head because of a one on an island called Tankar and one in a Spanish movie I saw last week. Unfortunately none of my work contains any lighthouses... maybe I get back to them after some work.

First post. Hmm, well I think I start with this one because it's been a hot and a very dry summer. So summer picture it is.
